The Origin Bank Softball & Soccer Complex is a two-story facility that stands between Dr. Billy Bundrick Field and Robert Mack Caruthers Field, housing the operations for both the softball and soccer programs.
The first floor features an athletic training room that serves the needs of both Bulldog teams on a daily basis. The space consists of treatment tables, rehab equipment, offices and cold tubs. Softball has a team meeting room that seats 28 in a theater-style seating that connects to their team locker room.
The level also contains a softball player's lounge, a shared equipment and laundry room and a fully-conditioned indoor hitting facility that has three oversized lanes for hitting and pitching. The lanes can be pulled back to create an enclosed space that can be utilized for other types of training. There is also an umpire/referee locker room.
The second floor features coaches' offices for both softball and soccer, overlooking their respective fields. There is a shared conference room, locker room for coaches, as well as a soccer team meeting room with 44 theater-style chairs that is immediately adjacent to their locker room and nutrition area.
Outside of the facility is a ticket booth that serves as the main entry point for both fields as well as a courtyard that serves as a gathering space prior to games.
On April 25, 2019, the home of Louisiana Tech Softball – Lady Techster Softball Complex – for almost 30 years was destroyed by an EF3 tornado.
While the 2019 team still went on to win the Conference USA regular season and tournament title, several questions were being asked. Where would the new facility go? What would it look like? When would it be ready?
All of the answers were revealed in November of that year in a press conference as University officials announced their vision for the new softball facility, which would move to a new location – from the corner of Tech Drive and Alabama Avenue to part of the parking lot just north of the Jim Mize Track and Field Complex.
In March of 2020, construction officially began with the goal of having the facility ready for the 2021 season.
That goal was coming closer and closer to a reality when on Feb. 5, 2021 it was announced that the new softball field would be named Dr. Billy Bundrick Field, named in honor of the highly-decorated orthopedic surgeon who gave more than 40 years of his professional career to his alma mater.
Four days later, the Lady Techsters had their first practice on the new field. Then on March 5, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards cut the ribbon that officially opened Dr. Billy Bundrick Field.
That night, after nearly two years between home games on campus due to the tornado, LA Tech opened the facility with a 6-3 victory over Tarleton State. A little over a month later on April 10, the Lady Techsters played host to No. 1-ranked and eventual national champion Oklahoma.
Total capacity of the facility is 1,000 including standing room only. There is a fixed seating capacity of 500 with a mix of chair back seating and bleachers, as well as a first base turf berm area for fans to bring chairs and the Kennel student section in the right field grass berm.
